Oxygen Cancels Shawty Lo’s “All My Baby Mamas” Reality Show
Shawty Lo stirred some controversy for his upcoming reality television series, All My Babies’ Mamas, which features him, his 11 kids, and 10 different mothers. After public outcry to pressure the network to cancel Shawty Lo’s project, they have responded by stopping the production of the show.
Daily Beast’s Allison Samuels states that a nationwide petition—which is helmed by best-selling author Sabrina Lamb—has received more than 40,000 signatures. Although Oxygen has denied announcing the show’s cancellation, Samuels’ sources claim it won’t be airing anytime soon.
At first, Oxygen defended the project by offering this: “It was not meant to be a stereotypical representation of everyday life for any one demographic or cross section of society.’’ Unless I’m mistaken, the term “baby mama” is used almost exclusively in reference to black women, so Oxygen needed to do better than that. If the show was about a white man with 11 children and had the same title, we might be able to have a different conversation.
Later in her article, she reveals that Lamb’s Change.org petition gathered more than 33,000 signatures in just 10 days. She has been outspoken about her thoughts about the reality TV show, believing that it sends the wrong impression to young females Here, She explained her motivation for putting together the petition in the first place.
“I love that the people who’ve signed the petition are from all backgrounds, ages, and countries,’’ says Lamb. “This one elderly white man wrote me and said even he was tired of the stereotypical images of black people.’’
“This show is about more than a rapper and his girlfriends,’’ says Lamb. “This is a show about kids who had no choice in how they came into the world. This show sets them up to be ridiculed and made fun of. None of us should be OK with that.’’

At the time of this writing, Shawty Lo’s ex-girlfriend Jai Jai is pregnant with the rapper’s 12th kid, making her the 11th baby mama.
While I am glad that this show is not airing, there are A LOT more “reality” shows that should also draw the same criticism.

I agree with the comment about the children. Regardless of his motivation, the lives that are affected are the kids. I was curious to see if it were buffonery or not.
I agree Sheka. My husband and I were talking about that the other day. What ever happen to the Cosby show. All the black families on tv are negative.
All My Baby Mamas aint the worse thing on tv. I was kinda looking forward to the trash
